I asked myself and others and tried writing down the first things that came to mind when I said World War One. I came up with the words, death, millions of lost lives, destruction... Then I asked myself the purpose of WWI. The answer was simple, so the country could expand its territory, and protect its nation from invasion. But is that what comes to mind when I mention "World War One"? That we gained a few kilometers? The number of deaths outweighed the number of gained land by so much, no one even thought of the land gained. So what am I trying to say? The protection of one's country was so important, that the number of lives lost was not cared for or even looked at. Casualties were looked at as a normal thing. So to answer the question in my introduction. As I mentioned before, men from across the nation enlisted for the pride of a country.
