Keys to History

A vegetable vendor waits for customers in the Bonsecours Market, perhaps in an open-air extension of the market, in Jacques Cartier Square. A promotional parasol, already a common form of advertising during this period, can be seen above her. During the summer, in the 1910s, Jacques Cartier Square was covered with this kind of parasol. It was the perfect place to bring together country people and city dwellers.
