During the first decades of the 20th century, St. Lawrence Boulevard became the heart of Montreal's Chinese and Jewish neighbourhoods. The stores and businesses there sold immigrants products from their countries of origin. In this area, they also built their places of worship, assembly and recreation. The Yiddish theatre and vaudeville was then in their heyday.
