This is William Darling II (May 15, 1796-January 19, 1871). He was born in Dunse, Scotland and died in Montreal, Canada. The Darling gravestone at the Preston Street Cemetery in Edinburgh, Scotland has his name on it. He imported the first sewing machine from the USA to the UK. It was a Baker machine which he liked better than the Singer. He had 13 children with his first wife, Isabella Cockburn who died in childbirth. He had 5 more children with his 2nd wife, Jane Jarvie. His sister was Annie Darling Morland, wife of Thomas Morland, shown together in a Notman photo. Darling family members in the USA have a collage of a photo of him along with photos of most of his children.
