Here, the subject is a stallion of the breed that originated in Vermont, the Morgan horse. This one belonged to Joël Hall Ives of Stanstead Plain, Quebec, whose farm was directly across the border from Derby Line, Vermont. Morgan horses were highly prized in the late 19th century for their strength and beauty. |
