This selection of approximately 240 images provides a sample of the collections related to transportation in Canada, between the years 1840 and 1945. It documents the methods and systems which enabled the movement of people and goods over land, river, sea and air.

  • Railways, the Canadian Pacific Railway Line and construction projects, including the building of the Victoria Bridge (Montreal) and Lions Gate Bridge (Vancouver);
  • Boats and navigation, namely on the rivers of New Brunswick and the Saint Lawrence River, as well as in the Arctic;
  • Shipbuilding in New Brunswick (in the 1800's) and in British Columbia (in the 1940's);
  • Maps, items and equipment, particularly those of First Nations.
