Introduction

John McCrae's poem, "In Flanders Fields" is widely appreciated and recognized for its illustrious depiction of the horrors and chaotic nature of war. However, John McCrae was much more than a war poet. He was an incredibly gifted student and respected doctor. Furthermore, he served in the Boer War prior to First World War, where he was a captain, and later major, of an artillery brigade.
