In World War One, thousands of Canadians volunteered to go to war in Europe. People volunteered because militarism and imperialism were very strong and people were greatly influenced by their sense of duty in 1914. Many parents sent their kids to war since they had such strong nationalism that they wanted to show Germany that their nation was strong and powerful.
