The Substance of Sculpture
Sculpture is the original 3D art. Whether the method be chiseling, molding, wheedling, etc., all sculptures have a natural depth that can be only emulated in two-dimensional art forms. Whatever the nature of the piece being sculpted, there is an apparent extra amount of "sweat" that is required to create a sculpted piece of art. From soft materials like soap and sandstone to the very hard like bronze, steel, and granite, the durability and longevity of a sculpted piece is testimony to the intense labor of its creation. The tactile element is even manifest in gem cutting and balanced mobiles.
