When Britain asked Canada for help in the war, 35 000 Canadians rushed to Valcartier to train and go overseas. Now why would they do that? Well Canada had lots of pride in being part of the great British Empire and would sacrifice themselves for the good of the empire. In the early 1900's going to war was the honorable thing for a man to do. If he refused to fight he would be labeled a coward or traitor.
