Keys to History

Shawinigan Water and Power was founded in 1898 by a group of American and Canadian financiers, including Montrealers A. F. Gault and L.-J. Forget, to exploit the rich hydroelectric potential of Shawinigan Falls and the St. Maurice River. The company would become the nucleus of a powerful industrial group and one of the main private electricity producers in Quebec until the Quiet Revolution.
