In 1901, the Dominion Iron and Steel Company completed construction of a big steel complex in Sydney, Nova Scotia, at a cost of more than 15 million dollars. The company was then controlled by Montrealer James Ross. W. C. Van Horne of Canadian Pacific would later become vice-president of the company.
