Despite the death of William Notman in 1891, the studio continued under his son William McFarlane Notman, who remained faithful to his father's style. Between 1898 and 1900, William McFarlane and his family rented an old farm house at Cap-à-l'Aigle, near La Malbaie. Among the pictures taken by him in that region is a series of images depicting domestic activities such as spinning, weaving and baking bread. He also captured many views of country roads, farms and nearby villages.
