Keys to History

Viger Square and St. Louis Square were located at opposite ends of the St. Hubert and St. Denis Street corridor. The latter square, which we see here in about 1895, is bounded on the west by Laval Avenue, where the family of poet Émile Nelligan then lived. This pleasant square was laid out in this Francophone neighbourhood in 1880 and it was typical of the elegant residential areas of the city.
