Keys to History

Maisonneuve Market was built from 1912 to 1914. Many of its stalls were equipped with refrigerators from the very beginning. In 1916, this market was one of the main public buildings in the industrial town of Maisonneuve, a suburb of Montreal, and one of the most important Montreal retail markets for agricultural products. Many other Montreal neighbourhoods also had their own markets, which provided a more local method of distribution than the central Bonsecours market. The city of Maisonneuve was annexed to Montreal in 1918.
