Keys to History

"The Toronto Lacrosse Club is the pioneer of the game in Ontario and the first to have the honour of beating the for-so-long invincible Shamrocks (of Montreal), thereby transferring the championship for the first time n the history of Lacrosse from Lower to Upper Province." (Canadian Illustrated News, March 25, 1876.) Both the Toronto and the Shamrock Lacrosse Clubs, as well as the National Lacrosse Association, were founded in 1867, the year of Canada's Confederation.
