This cover reveals both the social standing and history of its owners, the seigneurs of Rouville, Thomas Edmund Campbel (1809? -1872) and his wife, Henriette-Julie-Anne Juchereau Duchesnay (1813-1873). Their family crests are engraved side by side on the cover along with the motto "Pro aris et focis," which means "for our altars and hearths." The handle is in the form of the head of a stag, the emblem of the family depicted in its crest and in the decoration of the manor house in St. Hiliare.
