This stuffed toy represents Minnie Mouse, the girlfriend of the illustrious Mickey Mouse. Minnie Mouse appeared for the first time in the animated cartoon Steamboat Willie, which premiered at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928. It was the first animated cartoon with synchronized picture and sound produced by Walt Disney.
The copyright on the doll belonged to Disney, but it was made in Germany by Steiff, a company famous for the stuffed bears that it introduced in 1903. Disney's animated characters were the inspiration for numerous stuffed toys. So successful were they that they apparently generated greater profits than the films on which they were based.
