Description

This coffee service is made of fine blue-glazed china dotted with small white flowers. The St. John's Stone Chinaware Co. brought out this model in 1879. The company, with its workshops in St. Jean sur Richelieu, was the only Canadian company in the 19th century to produce china as fine as that imported from Europe. Its output was varied, ranging from kitchen utensils to toiletry articles, and including fine dishes highly sought after by collectors. In the background, left to right, are a coffee pot, dessert plate, sugar bowl and creamer; in the foreground are two coffee cups on saucers.
