Ornaments of this type were made in great number in England and Bohemia in the 19th century. They were often found in middle-class homes, where they were placed on the mantel as a decorative piece. Although it is impossible to determine the exact origin of this pair, the naturalist style of the decoration and the quality of the glass indicate that they probably came from England, rather than Bohemia.
