This silver commemorative medal was awarded to the Notman photography studio in 1860 when the Exhibition of Canadian Industry was held in Montreal. The medal is signed by Joseph S. Wyon, of London, Chief Engraver of the Seals to Her Majesty.

The exhibition coincided with the opening of the Victoria Bridge. It was officially opened by the Prince of Wales, visiting Montreal for the occasion, and was held in the new crystal palace, modelled on the one in London.

Visitors to the exhibition were able to view and learn about the resources of rural Canada and the manufacturing industries of its cities. There was a wide range of displays: minerals, specimens of seeds, lumber and local grains, preserved fish and fowl, oils, foodstuffs, textiles and leather goods, furniture, clothing, machines, cast and forged ironwork, tools, notions and novelty items for women, and Canadian art.
