Dene hunter-fishers from the western Subarctic spent a lot of time decorating their clothing, jewellery and weapons. This summer shirt, made of smoked caribou hide, is trimmed with finely cut fringes, each strand of which is wrapped with porcupine quills. This beautiful garment would no doubt have greatly pleased the spirits of the animal that its wearer was trying to hunt.
