Description

Historic images of aboriginal people form an important part of the McCord Museum's photographic archives. This spectacular photograph, taken in 1869, shows a group of Kahnawake Mohawk men and women wearing elaborate beaded garments. They are accompanied by a number of non-Natives, including the Mayor of Montreal, William Workman and William George Beers. The photograph was taken at Kahnawake, probably at an important public event involving the Mohawk and Montreal communities, such as a lacrosse game.
