Description
This cup was made at the beginning of the 18th century in France, or, more specifically, in Montpellier. It belonged to Louis Joseph Marquis de Montcalm (1712-1759) during his time in Quebec, as is indicated by the coat of arms that it bears. Montcalm is an important historical figure associated with the defeat of the French by the British during the Seven Year's War and thus the loss of France's colonial empire in North America.
