This model cradleboard and its doll were made for an Iroquois girl at the end of the 19th century. The cradleboard wrapper and the doll's clothes are decorated with glass beads. Carved and painted on the back of the cradleboard are flower designs like those found on full-size cradleboards. Aboriginal children were surrounded by beautiful beaded objects from their earliest years. They learned how to do beadwork by watching their mothers.
