Côme-Séraphin Cherrier was the son of Joseph and Marie Cherrier. After his mother died when he was three, he was brought up by his uncle, Denis Viger. In 1833, he married Marie Mélanie Quesnel.

For many years he was protonotary of the Quebec bar. In 1855 he sat on the seigniorial court as legal council for the seigniors. Cherrier Street in Montreal is named after him.
