Description

Although the official inauguration of the Victoria Bridge took place during the summer of 1860 in the presence of the Prince of Wales, the first train to officially cross the bridge did so on December 17, 1859. For the occasion, an invitation was sent out on behalf of James Hodge, chief engineer on the project, to some 1 000 eminent citizens, politicians, members of the clergy and other high-profile figures from Montreal. Judge John Samuel McCord was also one of the guests.
