This photograph portrays Keith Notman with his eldest son William Lyall.

In 1912, Keith Claxton Notman (1893-1985) worked at the Notman photographic studio in Montreal for a period of four months. During that time, he was paid a twice-monthly salary of $10. According to studio payroll records, preserved in the Museum archives, he was hired as a photographer.

Keith Notman was photographer William Notman's sixth grandson and the youngest son of William McFarlane Notman (1857-1913). In 1927, he married Catherine Lyall (1902-1932) with whom he would have two children, William Lyall Notman (1928-2000) and Catherine Ann Notman (1929- ). Catherine Lyall died in 1932 and Keith remarried in 1946 to the widow Ruth Catherine Ballentyne (?-1995).
