Description

This photograph shows Miss Findlay surrounded by a group of young women who worked in the printing room of the Notman photography studio.

Miss Findlay worked at the Notman studio between 1874 and 1876. In 1876 the studio employed 53 people, 18 of them women, including at least 8 in the printing room. The other women worked in reception, in the dressing room or mounting photographs on cardboard backing. During her two years with Notman, Miss Findlay was paid $7 every two weeks, then $8.
