Keys to History

Prince Arthur, Queen Victoria's third son, is pictured here with fellow officers and men of the Rifle Brigade. He was stationed in Montreal for two years of officer training, initially with the Rifle Brigade, and completed his training in Canada with the Royal Artillery before returning to Britain in 1871. The setting of the composite photograph is the frozen shoreline of St. Helen's Island with the military buildings in the background.
