In 1841, William Dow, son of the Scottish brewer, founded the William Dow and Company brewery in conjunction with his brother Andrew. In 1844, Dow acquired a property that came with a large warehouse. This was on William Street in Griffintown. Later, around 1860, the company built a brewery a few streets to the west of the warehouse, between Notre-Dame and William streets. Although many other Griffintown industries went out of business, William Dow's brewery continued operating up to our own time.
