This is a photograph of two employees of the Notman photography studio in Montreal, Horatio N. Topley and Patrick Mahoney.

Horatio N. Topley worked at the Notman photography studio in Montreal for two years and nine months, between 1867 and 1869. While he was there, his wages rose from $12 every two weeks to $14. We have no information on exactly what his job with the company was.

Patrick Mahoney worked at the Notman photography studio in Montreal for eight years and 10 months, between 1867 and 1875. According to the studio payroll book, now in the Museum archives, he was employed as a photographer, and over the years his wages rose from $6 every two weeks to $18.
