Keys to History
This photo dating from 1866 shows Alexander McGibbon wearing his grocer's apron, his order book in his hand. McGibbon's gourmet grocery store was then on St. James Street, and McGibbon himself lived nearby, in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood. In 1880, the family moved to Peel Street. More and more gourmet grocery stores were opened along St. Catherine Street near their home. The son, Alexander Junior, studied law.
