Description

This young woman, photographed in William Notman's studio in 1861, wears a dress that bears numerous similarities to one in the McCord Museum that dates from six or seven years earlier (M973.1.1.1-2). In each case, the skirt is made up of three flounces that give it a more ample sweep. The bodices of both dresses, set off with a small lace collar, are trimmed with a sort of V-shaped fringed yoke and pagoda sleeves with fringed flounces.
