"Roofing the Victoria bridge. (...) The locomotive, a small one, employed in conveying the iron plates to the workmen in the tube, passed through before the writer had left the roof. There was scarcely any vibration perceptible ; nothing but rumbling sound occasioned by the passage of a train through a tunnel".
